Kólga is a recent name on the Icelandic folk scene. Kólga plays folk, well known traditional songs, but also original material they write and arrange in that folky – rootsy soundscape. Kólga consists of violinist/vocalist Kristin Sigurjonsdottir, accordionist/vocalist Helgi Thor Ingason, bassist/vocalist Jon Kjartan Ingolfsson and guitarist/mandolinist/vocalist Magni Gunnarsson. The repertoire of Kólga includes bluegrass, Celtic folk, Scandinavian folk, Ukrainian folk and other styles. What merges it all together is the special soundscape of the instruments, lyrics in Icelandic and vocal harmonies.
